WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Worcester police are investigating an armed robbery and shooting that injured one man Wednesday afternoon.
Police said officers were dispatched to the area of AutoZone Auto Parts on Park Avenue shortly before 5 p.m. for a report of an armed robbery and shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a 41-year-old shooting victim and provided medical assistance. The victim was taken to the hospital.
According to police, a preliminary investigation determined that a male suspect robbed the victim in the AutoZone parking lot and shot him during the confrontation. The shooter then fled the scene on foot.
A nearby witness told police that his car was struck at least twice during the shooting, shattering the back windshield. The witness was not injured, police said.
