WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Worcester Police officer is charged with driving drunk on railroad tracks in a stolen CSX pickup truck early Monday morning.
Michael Escobar was arrested around 3:20 a.m. Monday behind Pat's Service Station on Union Street in Worcester. He's charged with OUI liquor, use of a motor vehicle without authority, and riding on railroad tracks.
Prosecutors said he had no business being there; on the arrest report, an arresting officer wrote, "Mr. Escobar was on CSX property, for no legitimate purpose."
Officers responded to the area after getting a call that a white Subaru had driven onto the MBTA Commuter Rail tracks from the T's public parking lot nearby.
The Subaru was lodged on the tracks; according to the police report, a glassy-eyed Escobar told officers he didn't know how it got there.
Witnesses told police Escobar left his Subaru and stole a CSX truck, driving it onto the tracks and damaging it. Surveillance video shows Escobar driving the stolen truck around the property before veering onto the tracks.
Responding Worcester Police officers took him out of that stolen truck and arrested him.
He's due back in court on February 27 for a pre-trial hearing.
