Worcester Police Officer And 14-Year-Old Identified In Drowning On Friday

WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) —The Worcester officer who drowned while trying to save a teen has been identified as 38-year-old Enmanuel "Manny" Familia.

The 14-year-old boy, who was later identified by family as Troy Love according to NBC 10 Boston, drowned in Green Hill Pond on Friday afternoon.

Reports said three children were struggling in the Green Hill Pond and five officers went into the water to help rescue them.

Witnesses said one officer came out with two of the children and were transported to the hospital. The two rescued teenagers are expected to be okay.

Familia, the five-year veteran, leaves behind his wife Jennifer and two children, a son and a daughter.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Familia's family and funeral costs. As of Saturday afternoon, it had raised over $13,000 dollars.
