WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Worcester police say several officers were attacked during a melee at a beer garden.

Masslive.com reports five people were charged in the fighting early Saturday morning at the Beer Garden on Franklin Street.

Police say officers were trying to help clear out the establishment after a fight at about 12:30 a.m., when several people attacked them.

They say a female officer had a large chunk of hair torn from her head and another officer was bitten by a woman who had taken his baton.

They say another patron attacked a police dog before being bitten by the animal.

Those arrested face charges ranging from disorderly conduct to assault on a police officer.

They are scheduled to be arraigned on Monday in Worcester District Court.
