23 Workers At Worcester Walmart Test Positive For COVID-19

WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Walmart in Worcester has been closed for cleaning Thursday after 23 employees test positive for COVID-19.

The city issued a cease and desist order for the store on Tobias Boland Way after finding employees had not been wearing protective equipment. The store had previously planned to close on Thursday, as announced on their Facebook page.

In a statement to WBZ-TV, the store says they were originally supposed to reopen on Friday morning, but are "working with local officials to ensure we take all the necessary steps before reopening the store."

The store also said that many of the employees who tested positive "have not been to work in the store the last several days."

The city said that all employees must be tested for coronavirus before returning to work. They also are requiring all customers and workers "to wear face masks while in the store and employees returning to work shall also wear protective gloves."
