BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — People in Massachusetts are responding to a new law in Florida that places social media restrictions on minors.

Governor Ron Desantis signed the bill that will go into effect next year.

It restricts minors from joining social media platforms.

WBZ's James Rojas was asking people in Massachusetts what they thought about the new law and whether it would work here. The responses were a mixed bag. "I think a ban is a little much, but it would definitely be of help to young kids," said one.

Another opposed the law. "Even if it has some benefits, I think the government telling people what to do with their lives is an issue," she said. "Parents have an obligation to step in," she added.

A teenager asked about the law was for it. "I'm 16 years old , and yes, I agree with it."

The Florida restrictions go into effect in January of next year pending any legal challenges.
