BRAINTREE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A 24-year-old man from Abington is facing multiple charges, after he allegedly drove the wrong way while intoxicated, striking a police cruiser and a contractor's truck in Braintree early Sunday morning.
According to Massachusetts State Police, at around 5 a.m. Sunday an MSP cruiser and a contractor’s truck were hit at a road construction detail on Route 3 southbound in Braintree.
"Subsequent investigation by responding Troopers determined that the wrong-way driver, 24-year-old Christopher Fay of Abington, was operating under the influence of alcohol," MSP said.
Fay, who was driving a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee, suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash, and was transported to South Shore Hospital. He is expected to be released from the hospital later Sunday.
The Trooper was not injured when his cruiser was struck. However, MSP said a 53-year-old Stoughton man employed by the road contractor was injured when a work flatbead truck was hit by Fay's Jeep. The worker was transported to South Shore Hospital with minor injuries. Police had cleared the scene shortly before 7:45 a.m.
Fay is being charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation, having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, and wrong way violation.
