YARMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — To offset the slow roll after the holiday shopping season, the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce announced they are holding a first-ever "Winter Carnival" at Bass River Sports World in South Yarmouth, packed with festivities to promote local businesses in the off-season.

The YCC said the carnival will kick off on Friday and continue for the rest of the weekend.

"It's such a slow time for them, and they really need a kick- this was one way to attract people to the Town of Yarmouth," Executive Director of Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce Mary Vilbon said.

The Winter Carnival will have an outdoor synthetic ice rink, food trucks, s'mores making, ice sculpture demos, and other family-friendly activities intended for all ages, the YCC said.

Visitors looking to skate on the ice rink will have to reserve half-hour sessions ahead of time, said the Chamber's Marketing Director Jennifer Werner.

"Tickets went on sale, people are calling the Yarmouth Recreation Department," Werner said.
