BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Never underestimate the power of thank you. Research shows gratitude is not only good for your physical health but also your mental health. That's why what's been dubbed the "Millennial Thank You Note" is such a powerful gesture. It's a simple message also known as the "post-hang-out" text sent by millennials after a friendly gathering or conversation.

"Oh yeah, my friends do it too," said one Bostonian. And when asked why the messages warmed her heart, her reply was simple.

"Because they've gone and they're thinking about you. And then they're just expressing their feelings."

According to Psychological Science, some people overestimate how awkward expressing gratitude might be which prevents them from engaging in the impactful practice. Millennials, on the other hand, embrace the idea of vulnerability with their friends. Known as the generation that innovated and navigated the digital landscape, expressing gratitude via text is normal.

"In this world, everybody needs a little common courtesy," said another local.

What's deemed as cringe to some is embraced by the 30-something crowd, along with people in their early 40s

"You have to appreciate those nice things," said one Bay Stater.
