Youth-Led Group Donates Thousands Of Clothing Bags To Cradles To Crayons

NEWTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Thousands of bags of donated clothes are on their way to families in need, all thanks to a Boston-based, youth-led community service organization.

Over 400 student ambassadors who volunteered with Project 351 have spent the last two weeks collecting the donations in their individual communities to be dropped off at Cradles to Crayons in Newton.

Cradles to Crayons Executive Director Aubrey Conquergood said she is overwhelmed by the group's generosity.

"We have had a lot more demand on our services over the last year," she said. "We've had trailers pull up with 175 bags, we have three family members driving different cars that are all full of clothes."

Jasmine Findlen, an 8th grade student ambassador from Canton, said she was "amazed" by how many bags the ambassadors were able to collect.

"I didn't really think we were going to get that much, so it just made me really happy," Findlen said. "It's satisfying because we've been working on this for a while and it feels good to just finally see the impacts."

The project comes as demands for clothing donations and other goods are especially high at the moment, while the Covid-19 pandemic continues.
