STONEHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A million people have now visited Zoo New England's parks in 2021. The company's millionth visitor received a thousand-dollar check at Stone Zoo on Saturday night, along with a lifetime membership to the company's locations.
It's a record yearly attendance number for the company, which also owns the Franklin Park Zoo. The company also had record new membership numbers this year.
The zoo gave out hot chocolate on the house to everyone at the zoo that evening to mark the occasion. The company said it focuses its efforts on conservation of rare species in Africa, Central America and here in Massachusetts. The Franklin Park Zoo will be expanding significantly in the next year with a new gorilla exhibit.
