BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Red Sox pummeled the Yankees last night, and Xander Bogaerts was the star.

The problem was, his family missed it—they were late to the game.

So, in the eighth inning, with catcher Austin Romine on the mound, the All-Star catcher tried again, and it worked.

"My parents got in, my mom, my uncle, my little league coaches, they got in today, I hit the first one, they weren't here," Bogaerts said. "I saw them arrive, and then I struck out, and I'm like, 'Typical!' But they were there the whole game, I got a couple hits, and then the last at-bat, I saw my mom there and I was like, I'm gonna try. It didn't work out a couple pitches, and I was happy it did."

Bogaerts said he's tried to homer before, and it didn't work out, but it sure did this time.
