NightSide with Dan Rea - Rundown for 1/31/18

Reactions to President Trump’s SOTU Address!  Last night, President Trump delivered his first State of the Union speech, laying out his priorities for his administration’s second year.  The President used the moment to call for bipartisan cooperation on issues like immigration and infrastructure, while highlighting inspirational stories of individual Americans along the way.  Representative Joe Kennedy III delivered the Democratic response from Fall River, Massachusetts, and struck a much more urgent, divisive tone.  Which message did you find more powerful or inspirational?  Did either speech change your mind about either political party?  Boston Herald columnist Joe Battenfeld checks in to tell us what he thought.  Call in and add your voice to the conversation!

Should Schools Ban ‘Best Friends’?  Adolescent, child and family psychologist Dr. Barbara Greenberg has raised a few eyebrows with her recent argument that schools should ban the term ‘best friends’.  Dr. Greenberg believes that by encouraging or allowing children to judge and rank their friends, we are creating more opportunity for others to feel excluded or hurt.  She talks with Dan about why she believes a change in language could make all the difference.  Do you think it is normal for kids to have best friends?  Or should we encourage kids not to put some relationships over others?  Did you have a best friend when you were growing up?  Call in and be a part of the show!

Would You Go to the Super Bowl?  Sunday night, most of the country will turn its attention to Minneapolis, where the New England Patriots will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII.  We all know that tickets for the game cost thousands of dollars, with the cheapest ticket to get in the door this year going for $3,500.  But when you consider staying in a hotel room, dealing with stadium traffic and security, high concessions prices, and how much better the in-home viewing experience has become, we’re curious - if someone offered you a free, non-transferable ticket to Sunday’s game, would you take it?  Call in and tell us what you think!
