NightSide with Dan Rea - Rundown for 2/5/18

Your Post-Super Bowl Thoughts!  Last night, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots were unable to come away with their sixth championship, falling to the Philadelphia Eagles 41-33 in Super Bowl LII.  From the confusing decision to bench Malcolm Butler, to the future of Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and Rob Gronkowski, there are plenty of questions for the Patriots to deal with this offseason.  Last night’s game also brought in the lowest viewership for a Super Bowl since 2010, capping off a year of poor ratings and bad publicity for the NFL.  Did you watch the game last night?  What do you think about the future of the team and the league in general?  Call in and join the conversation!

The Immigration Debate Rages On!  Over the next few days or weeks, the immigration debate will be front and center in our nation’s capital.  Sarang Sekhavat, Federal Policy Director for the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA), joins Dan in the NightSide studio to talk about the “Dreamers”, DACA, the lottery system vs a merit-based one, whether chain migration or family reunification needs to be addressed, and what he thinks the ideal bipartisan agreement from Congress should contain.  Call in with your comments or questions and be a part of the show!

Is Giving the Middle Finger Free Speech?  An Indiana man was pulled over and ticketed for “provocation” after giving the finger to a State Trooper.  After getting his conviction vacated, Mark May is now seeking money to cover his legal fees and lost income, claiming that the original traffic stop was a violation of the Fourth Amendment, and that “giving the finger” should be protected by his First Amendment rights.  Do you think flipping someone off should be considered free speech?  Was it reasonable for the trooper to pull May over after seeing the gesture?  Call in and tell us where you stand!
