Nightside with Dan Rea - Rundown for January 12, 2021

Impeachment the Sequel. This week House Democrats introduced an article of impeachment that charges Trump with high crimes and misdemeanors for whipping up an insurrection and disrupting the peaceful transfer of power. If the House votes to impeach the President, the case heads to the Senate. According to Sen. Mitch McConnell, the earliest a trial could begin is January 19th. When Joe Biden is slated to take over the presidency January 20th, what is the point of an impeachment trial? BU Law Professor Jack Beermann joins Dan to discuss.

Not My Fault. President Trump spoke to the press today insisting his speech last week at the U.S. Capitol was "totally appropriate" and did not incite violence. The President also suggested attempts by Democrats to remove him prematurely from office and censorship by tech companies could themselves lead to violence. Is he right?

Social Media Crash. Twitter shares have dropped significantly after the company permanently suspended President Donald Trump’s account along with many other conservative accounts. Other social media companies that suspended the President are also trading including Facebook, Snap, and Pinterest. Membership on their websites are also in sharp decline. Do you have accounts with any of these services? Will you keep it?
