Nightside with Dan Rea - Rundown for April 1, 2021

Race Obsession. Has our education system become too obsessed with race? A Virginia high school teacher has gained national attention after scolding a student for not recognizing the racial differences of two girls on a lesson slide. Loudoun County Public Schools in Ashburn claims they have “not adopted Critical Race Theory as a framework for staff to adhere to” and yet it appears some teachers have not gotten the memo. Is bringing attention to racial differences helping or hurting the progression of equality?

AOC Redefines Surge. This week, NY Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez finally addressed the ongoing Border crisis, mainly to scold anyone using the term “surge”. She told her Instagram followers that, “Anyone who’s using the term ‘surge’ around you, consciously, is trying to invoke a militaristic frame.” The Congresswoman went on to say that we are not dealing with a Border crisis but instead a “Imperialism crisis” and a “climate crisis”. Is she right or completely off base with her claims?
