Jordan Rich Fills In On Nightside with Dan Rea - Rundown for May 31, 2021

True Meaning of Memorial Day. The long Memorial Day weekend is known for its barbecues and get-togethers with family and friends and holiday shopping sales. But for many, it’s a solemn day of honor and remembrance of those who died serving our country in the U.S. military. Many Americans mark the day with an official moment of silence at 3 P.M. in honor of those who have died in service, while others are grilling their favorite meats and saving money at the furniture store. Have we lost sight of what Memorial Day truly means?

A Worn Out Welcome. Kyrie Irving played two seasons with the Boston Celtics before joining the Brooklyn Nets. Unfortunately, he didn't leave Boston fans wanting more. In 2019, Irving had indicated he would be signing once again with the Celtics only to leave for the Brooklyn Nets. In his first game in front of Celtics fans, Irving was met with boos, jeers, and chants. As he exited the court, a fan fired a water bottle at him, narrowly missing his head. Sports columnist Dan Shaughnessy joins Jordan to discuss this incident and the overall behavior of both fans and players.

Have Vaccine, Will Travel. If you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 you can travel freely within the U.S. while continuing to take precautions, such as wearing a mask, sanitizing frequently, and avoiding crowds. International travel is a little trickier, but still widely possible. Travel expert Bob Weiss joins Jordan to discuss the latest travel statistics and what to expect on cruises and airlines moving forward. Are your bags already packed?

Post-COVID Freedom. As of May 29, Massachusetts has fully lifted all coronavirus restrictions and mask requirements on businesses and industries, allowing all of us to breathe a little easier. Sporting events and arenas are now booked to capacity, parades and festivals will fill the summer streets, and the drinks are flowing at bars and nightclubs. How does the new post-COVID freedom feel? Is your summer calendar already filled to capacity?
