Whitehouse's Club House. U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) is under scrutiny for his decades-long membership at an allegedly all-white private beach club. When first asked about the lack of diversity at the Newport-based beach club, the senator said, “I think the people who are running the place are still working on that and I’m sorry it hasn’t happened yet.” Now Whitehouse is defending his club saying it does have "diversity of membership".
