Are the Olympics a Bust? Viewership for the Olympics has been on the decline. This year’s Tokyo Olympic Games on NBC only pulled in 16.7 million viewers, which is the smallest audience for the network in the past 33 years. In comparison, the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016 pulled in 26.5 million viewers. Why is there such a decline in viewership? Is it politically driven or with no live spectators just not as compelling?
