Do Vaccine Passports Equal Slave Papers? This week New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that proof of a COVID vaccine will be required for entering various restaurants, gyms, and other entertainment venues starting August 16th. Mayor de Blasio says this first in the nation approach is a way for people to see vaccination as “literally necessary to living a good, full, and healthy life”. Boston Mayor Kim Janey shared her thoughts on de Blasio’s approach comparing the required vaccine documentation to that of slave papers. Are you in favor of Mayor de Blasio’s required approach or do you agree with Mayor Janey that we should not be creating any type of barrier?

Addressing Mental Health. Olympic gymnast Simone Biles shocked the world when she pulled out of a number of events at the Tokyo Olympics citing mental health challenges. Biles claimed she had the “twisties”, which is the loss of a gymnast’s sense of control while in the air, among other struggles. While many praised the athlete for her decision to prioritize her mental health, many also criticized her claiming she was playing the victim, did it for attention, and should have toughened up to compete. Do you applaud Simone Biles for bowing out of various events to address her mental health? Did Biles do the world a favor by bringing the topic of mental health to the global stage?
