NightSide with Dan Rea - Rundown for November 17, 2021

The War over Native American Mascots in Massachusetts. A bill is under consideration on Beacon Hill that would ban Native American mascots in Massachusetts' public schools. Supporters of the bill say such symbols are dehumanizing, racist, and derogatory, while opponents say barring the mascots might further erase tribal culture. On which side do you fall?

A Dearth of Nurses. New York City nurses are once again sounding the alarm that staffing shortages at local hospitals are jeopardizing public safety and they plan on protesting to advertise their predicament. Are you surprised at the health care personnel crisis after the vaccine mandate forcibly laid off hospital staff? Those who have stayed on the job now face ratios of 1 nurse to 20 patients. Have the mandates created a public safety crisis?

We Don't Need No Stinkin' Social Security Numbers... Buried in the 1.75 trillion dollar, 2,135-page, Build Back Better Act before Congress this week is a provision that repeals the Social Security number requirement to obtain child tax credits. In other words, you do not have to be a citizen, or even here legally, in order to obtain the federal handout. The Center for Immigration Studies says the move would cost taxpayers $2.3 billion in child tax credit payouts to illegal immigrants and $8.2 billion in credits to illegal immigrants with children born in the U.S. Is this a good idea? Was it buried on page 1,647 on the bill for a reason?
