Affordable Housing in the Suburbs. In 2021, Gov. Baker signed a law that required many suburban towns in the Greater Boston area to allow more affordable housing. The law requires 175 municipalities to zone at least 50 acres of land where developers could build new multifamily housing complexes with a minimum of two units per town. A growing number of towns are pushing back against the Baker Administration. The Boston Globe put out an editorial piece telling Baker not to back down.
