Jordan Rich Fills In On NightSide with Dan Rea - Rundown for July 7, 2022

Boston’s Crippling Rent Prices. According to multiple cost of living calculators, Boston ranks one of the top 5 most expensive cities to live in the U.S. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, yearly inflation in Boston hit an all-time high of 7.5%. The average one-bedroom apartment in Boston rose 13% over the last year. Will the rising cost of living in Boston drive people out of the city, into the suburbs, or even out of the state? MA lawmakers are trying to offset high costs by rolling out a plan to provide direct payments to residents, but will it be enough?

To The Rescue! Over the last week there have been multiple stories of New Englanders having to be rescued from various precarious situations they found themselves in. One NH hiker was found and rescued by fellow hikers after falling down a mountain and injuring himself. Then, two men out of Marshfield were rescued at sea after being ejected from their boat. Jordan asks you, have you ever had to be rescued or rescued someone? Tell us your story!

“Return of the Yellowbirds”. For decades Northeast Airlines was a Boston-based carrier serving New Englanders all throughout the six-state region. During WWII the airline pioneered an air transport route across the North Atlantic establishing supply routes to support the European war efforts. In the 1960s the carrier designed a “Yellowbird” logo to symbolize their service to Florida and the Caribbean. That design is still remembered today even after the airline merged with Delta in the 1970s. Jeff Rapsis, Executive Director of the Aviation Museum of NH joins Jordan to discuss the history of aviation in New England and the upcoming event “Return of the Yellowbirds”!
