A New Boston Police Commissioner is Named. Today, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announced that veteran Boston police officer Michael Cox will assume the role of Police Commissioner beginning on August 15th. Cox has been serving as the chief of police in Ann Arbor, Michigan, since 2019 and returns to Boston to build a better department, increase community engagement, and ensure all police officers have the support and tools necessary to effectively serve the public. Cox outlined his top priority is to get police officers back out into the community to re-establish trust and get direct feedback from the citizens. Tonight, Dan speaks with former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis who was on the five-member search committee for candidates.
Our Deepest Look into the Universe Yet. NASA recently released pictures taken by the James Webb Space Telescope which revealed we can now look deep into space and far into the past! Incredibly, this telescope has the capability of looking 13.6 billion light years distant which is the farthest ever seen into space. Avi Loeb, Professor of Science at Harvard University, talks with Dan about what this glance into deep space could reveal about our past and mean for the future.
June Inflation Numbers are In. The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its inflation report this morning and unfortunately it showed that June prices rose 1.3 percent, compared with prices from the month before. Inflation has soared 9.1% and is at a new 40-year high, with policymakers scrambling to curb these numbers without triggering a recession. Is there hope on the horizon?
