Concerns Over BPD Understaffing. The Boston Police Department has been facing the challenge of understaffing for months now. At times, the department has required officers to work long overtime shifts, for many a minimum of 16 hours and for some 24 hours straight. The Boston Police Patrolmen’s Assoc. is calling the practice unsafe and “utterly unacceptable.” BPPA President Larry Calderone joins Dan to discuss the concerns.
MCAS Scores Raise a Bigger Question. The recently released MCAS standardized testing scores suggest that students have a long way to go in recovering from “pandemic-era learning loss.” The MA Teacher’s Assoc. say, what students need is mental health resources not a “time-wasting, myopic focus on a high-stakes standardized testing system that has never worked as an accurate assessment of how well our students are doing in school.” Should we do away with the MCAS?
Challenge Denied. The U.S. Supreme Court has turned away a challenge made by the states to President Biden’s vaccine mandate for healthcare workers. States argue the mandate violates federal administrative law and bypasses powers reserved for the states under the Constitution. Should the Supreme Court have taken up the case?
