The Cost of MA’s Emergency Shelter System. As of December 28, 2023, the amount of money spent on Massachusetts’ emergency housing assistance program for the year 2024 is $247 million. According to the first shelter report that was released a couple of weeks ago, the state plans to more than triple their spending on their shelter program in 2025 with a projection of $915 million in spending. Tonight, Dan will discuss this topic more in length.
Boston Public Schools Overhaul. A new report released by Boston Public Schools reveals the school system might be undergoing a major change in the coming years where they close half of the district’s 119 schools. BPS has faced many challenges in the last decade including a 13% decline in enrollment. Dan will share his perspective on BPS’ failures and wants to hear your take on what should be implemented in the country’s oldest public school district.
