Newton Teachers’ Strike Continues. The Newton teachers’ strike continues as today marked the fourth day that classes were cancelled, leaving students out of school. The Newton Teachers Association could face the stiffest fine in decades that a MA court has imposed on striking teachers if they don’t let up by Thursday. It Pays To Go To School…Literally! A proposed Ohio law aimed at combating absenteeism wants to introduce a pilot program to pay students to show up to school! The program would reward students who kept up a 90% attendance rate for the year by giving them $150 at the end of each quarter and $700 at the end of the year. Is paying students, who by law are required to go to school, really the correct solution for absenteeism?
