Depending what state or even what community you live in, today is recognized as either Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples Day. In recent years there has been much controversy over Columbus Day for its namesake Christopher Columbus and his reputation for the way he treated Indigenous people, with some calling for the renaming of the holiday.
