A recent study from the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology found that people start developing unhealthy perceptions of their own bodies in early childhood. Researchers found that children as young as 7 start to judge their bodies in ways that eventually could lead to an eating disorder. In addition, during this age of filters and AI, the Mental Health Foundation warns that unrealistic body images that flood social media can cause people to strive for “perfection,” an unattainable goal that can lead to mood disorders as well. How much is social media really to blame and what can parents do to help their children have a healthy relationship with food and their bodies?
