Social Security Struggles. Boston attorney Jim Roosevelt, grandson of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (who signed the Social Security Act into law) and former associate commissioner of the Social Security Admin. during the Clinton Administration, believes the Trump Admin. is “trying to hollow out Social Security” and “undermine confidence in the system” by weakening the agency that manages the program. Prosecutors to Seek Death Penalty for Mangione. In the case of Luigi Mangione, the man accused of murdering United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson last year in New York City, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has directed federal prosecutors to pursue the death penalty. Mangione faces state murder and terrorism charges in New York, along with federal murder and stalking charges. U.S. AG Bondi lifted the moratorium on federal executions back in February of this year.
