Trump’s Fight with U.S. Colleges. The Trump Administration announced it will “review” nearly $9 billion in federal funding for Harvard University and its affiliates in an effort to "root out antisemitism". While Harvard has been taking measures to address incidents of antisemitism on campus, the Trump Administration seems to be unable to make a clear connection between the threatened grants and instances of antisemitism. Can this arguably Trump Admin. overreach backfire on the Administration and does this set a bad precedent of allowing presidents and future administrations to withhold federal funding or grants over whatever engagement they deem discriminatory?
Trump’s Tariffs! This morning after the opening bell, the stock market fell sharply following President Trump’s announcement on “reciprocal” tariffs Wednesday. Included in the new tariffs is a 10% baseline tariff on all imports. It’s unclear what the full impact of the tariffs may be, but some financial analysts worry the measures could drive up consumer prices and strain global trade relationships. Gregory Stoller, professor at Boston University’s School of Business joins us this evening to discuss.
