PORTLAND, Maine (WBZ NewsRadio) Thousands of music fans are expected to flock to Portland, Maine this weekend for the inaugural Back Cove Music and Arts Festival.

The two-day festival at Payson Park is on Aug. 2nd and 3rd, and features headliners like Lord Huron, The Roots, Jack White and Lucy Dacus.

“The plan is to make it an annual event for the city of Portland,” said the festival's co-founder Jordan Wolowitz.

Wolowitz calls Portland a “real music town,” but it’s not usually the site of an official music festival.

The event has been over a year in the making, and Wolowitz said he feels like he’s ingrained himself and the festival into the city.

“We’ve come up here for the last year and a half to get to know the city council and the mayor and everything, but also we’ve been meeting people at restaurants and at bars and at the local shops.”

The festival also features a lot of local acts, like Maine Academy of Modern Music, Pihcintu Multinational Chorus and the Oshima Brothers.

Single day general admission tickets go for $137, while kids 12 and under with a parent get in free. Tickets are still available online

“The whole lineup we’re excited about. It’s gonna be a great weekend,” Wolowitz said.
