BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Millions of people nationwide, and thousands in Boston, took part in the ‘No Kings’ protests against the Trump administration Saturday.

Protesters packed up the lawn at Boston Common with signs and flags, showing support the rally’s mission to stand against “the abuses of power, cruelty, and corruption,” according to the event’s website.

“We are standing up to say that the United States was founded on democracy, on the rule of law, on the constitution, and we’re here to uphold all three,” Rebecca Winter, Executive Director of Mass 50501, told WBZ NewsRadio.

Boston’s ‘No Kings’ protest was arranged by local organizations, including the ACLU of Massachusetts, Indivisible Mass Coalition and Mass 50501.

She added that Saturday’s event is expected to be the largest day of protest in the country.

“They are trying to impose a lot of restrictions on our freedoms and our liberties, and we are not standing idly by while that happens,” Winter continued.

The first ‘No Kings’ protest in Boston was a collaboration with the annual Pride Parade in June.

“This [one] is more of an isolated event, specifically part of the ‘No Kings’ coalition that is happening nationwide,” Winter said, adding the organizers still aimed to embody the festival vibe.

The main stage featured local musicians and speakers, including Mayor Michelle Wu to kick things off.

“In addition to the main stage, the real star of the show is the 30 organizing groups that have come together to table to teach people on how to do non-violent civil action,” she said.

The organizers emphasized that this is a peaceful protest, but security is still a top priority

“We’re also working with Boston Police Department and the City of Boston to ensure the event remains non-violent and as safe as possible,” Winter said.

Meanwhile, a counter protest supporting the Trump administration was also planned at the State House.
