BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Something big is brewing at the Boston Public Market.

A 638 pounds pumpkin was forklifted into the building on Tuesday. The giant gourd is one of the main events for the market’s annual Harvest Party, taking place Thursday, Oct. 16.

Chelsea Doliner, the chief marketing and engagement officer of Boston Public Market, told WBZ NewsRadio that this year’s festivities are extra special as the non-profit is also celebrating its 10th birthday.

The Harvest Party is the organization’s annual fundraiser that showcases local small businesses. The event is slated to include a dinner party and a bash, featuring more than 20 local food vendors, live music and a silent auction.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for our entire community to come together to celebrate the non-profit… and our mission to support our local entrepreneurs and bring our entire neighborhood and community together,” Doliner said.

She added that a giant pumpkin centerpiece has been an annual tradition at the festival.

“We’ve been so fortunate every year that we’ve had the harvest party that Al from Red Apple Farm… find us one of the biggest and most beautiful pumpkin and gourds that the Commonwealth has to offer and donate them to us to help kick off the celebration,” she said.

This year, the team also brought in a nearly 1600 pounds squash to join the party, the biggest on recorded squash in Massachusetts.

Tickets for the event are still available. For more information, visit the event page here.
