BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — At long last, a real storm appears to be on the way. The Boston-area is looking at a significant, plowable snowfall of up to eight inches. The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings for much of the state west of I-95, with a Watch south of town to Providence.

Western suburbs like Framingham could see around a foot of heavy, wet snow, with well over a foot expected in the Berkshires. Accuweather is predicting a lighter 3-6 inches of snow in Boston and 6-10 inches further west.

Besides the snow, utility companies are also warning of the possibility of power outages. "The heavy, wet snow and hazardous winds forecasted have the potential to bring down trees and branches onto electric lines and equipment," Craig Halstrom of Eversource said.

The NWS has issued a High Wind Warning along the Massachusetts coast from Cape Cod to the New Hampshire border. Wind gusts could reach up to 65 mph.
