January 1, 1980: WBZ becomes an ABC affiliate.

1980: A big change for the ‘BZ lineup. Dave Maynard moves to Mornings and Carl DeSuze to Middays. Bob Raleigh goes to the late-night shift.

1980: Gil Santos is honored as Mass Sportscaster Of The Year!

December 1980: WBZ begins the Children’s Hospital Fund Drive and raises $112,020.26 in the very first one!

1981: WBZ’s 60th Anniversary Celebration. [Website says 40… doing the math, it’s the 60th!]

December 1, 1983: “Dave Maynard Day” is celebrated. It’s Dave’s 25th Anniversary at ‘BZ.

1985: Carl DeSuze retires after more than 40 years with WBZ.

May 31, 1985. Popular newsman Arch MacDonald dies at age 73.

December 2, 1985: WBZ expands news coverage with an eye to the future. Afternoons become all news with Diane Stern and Anthony Silva on the anchor desk.

1986: David Brudnoy, who had been with WHDH and WRKO, comes over to WBZ.

May 1987: After 20 years on air, “The Commander” Larry Glick leaves WBZ .

April 11, 1988: Dave Maynard concludes a Children’s Hospital Penny Drive which raises $13,955.97 - all in pennies.
