BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston's seasonal "ski train" is set to return this winter bringing passengers to the Wachusett Mountain ski area, the MBTA and Keolis Commuter Services announced on Monday.
The Fitchburg Line schedule will be updated to include the ski train on December 12. Each train will have a specifically modified coach that includes racks for ski and snowboard equipment. The train encourages city residents to take public transportation while exploring outside the city this winter.
“We are so excited to have the ski train back in operation for the 2022/2023 ski season,” Carolyn Stimpson, vice president of Wachusett ski area, said in a statement. “Accessibility has always been a focus of Wachusett, and the ski train makes it so easy for our Boston-based skiers to get to us. Like all ski areas, we are working to reduce our carbon footprint and having efficient public transportation to the mountain is a great step. We are looking forward to the continued success of this partnership with Keolis and the MBTA."

The Wachusett ski train will be open for the winter season each weekend from December 17 to March 12. An additional weekday train will be available on Wednesdays from January 4 to March 8, according to MBTA.
MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak said the ski train is a "great example of using public transit to reach recreational destinations without the inconvenience of traffic and finding parking," this winter.
Wachusett Mountain ski area offers a shuttle service to transport passengers from Wachusett Station to the mountain and back.
