Boy Riding Scooter Struck, Yarmouth Police Seek Suspect In Hit-And-Run

YARMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — An eight-year-old boy was left seriously injured after a hit-and-run on Higgins Crowell Road in Yarmouth Saturday morning, according to Yarmouth Police Department.

The child victim was riding a scooter accompanied by his grandmother and two siblings at the time of the incident. The crash happened north of Abells Road, near the Professional Building Complex, YPD said.

When officers arrived at the scene, two bystanders were rendering first aid to the boy. Yarmouth Fire Department treated the victim for serious injuries. He was then transported to Cape Cod Hospital and was later flown to Boston via Boston MedFlight.

Witnesses reported the vehicle did not stop after the accident and continued driving Southbound on Higgins Crowell in the direction of Route 28. They described the suspected vehicle as a grey SUV, possibly a Mercedes Benz. YPD say the vehicle has damage to the front passenger side and is possibly missing a portion of the front light lens cover.

YPD, Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Accident Reconstruction Team, and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigations are investigating the crash. No arrests have been made at the time of posting.
