WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A holiday show classic with a hip-hop twist.
The Hip Hop Nutcracker is back on stage at Hanover Theatre and Conservatory on Thursday evening for the seventh season on tour. The tale of Maria-Clara and the nutcracker prince will get a modern twist as the show will feature contemporary dance instead of classic ballet.
The show will kick off at 7:30 P.M. with hip-hop dancers, a DJ, a violinist, and a feature from one hip-hop icon.
"Remixed and reimagined Nutcracker combines old school action with the new school flavor," well-known hip-hop artist Kurtis Blow said in a video posted by the Hanover Theatre and Conservatory.

Blow will open up the show with a short set at Thursday's show.
While the storyline will remain the same, digital graffiti will surround the stage, transforming the background from traditional 19th-century Germany to contemporary New York City.
Tickets are on sale at the box office and online.
