BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hundreds showed up in East Boston on Sunday morning to walk in the rain for the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center’s 17th annual “Walk for Change.”

Many wore purple "walk for change" t-shirts as left Constitution Beach and walked three miles in support of survivors and their stories.

Duane de Four, BARCC’s interim executive director, told WBZ's Suzanne Sausville that the rainy weather was a metaphor for what they do.

"It doesn't matter how bad, how cold, how terrible it might seem we have people here who are supporting survivors who are going to show up for you no matter what," said Duane de Four.

Kevin walked with the survivors. He was sexually assaulted as a child and wants others to know they are not alone.

"I sat on it, I kept it to myself for 25 years," he said.

He said since confronting what happened to him he has felt nothing but support from his children and family.

"Can't put a price on that of how proud I am of them and how proud they are of me," Kevin said.

The walk raised about 200 thousand dollars for the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center.
