METHUEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Nevins Farm is sounding the alarm for bird adopters after two big surrenders.

There are currently 30 roosters, geese, ducks, and guinea hens up for adoption at the MSPCA at Nevins Farm in Methuen.

More than a hundred animals were recently surrendered from a hobby farm in Wales, Massachusetts, prompting the farm to issue an urgent call for adopters.

"They came from an owner that took great care of them and cared enough about them to surrender them to us when they realized they were going to be in a position to not provide continued care," MSPCA-Angell's Kaycie McCarthy told WBZ NewsRadio's Kim Tunnicliffe.

Shortly after the surrender at the end of February, Nevins Farm took in nearly 100 more birds and 50 goats from a law enforcement investigation.

"We do ask if you come that you bring some photos of your coup setup, be ready to answer some questions, and be counseled about what you're looking for so we can find a good match for you," said McCarthy.

Around 70 of the surrendered hens have already been adopted.

Anyone interested in adopting can visit the MSPCA Tuesday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
