Cape Cod's First Coronavirus Case

BARNSTABLE COUNTY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has confirmed the first positive case of COVID-19 in Barnstable County.

According to the Cape Cod Times, the patient was admitted to a Cape Cod Healthcare hospital with respiratory symptoms and was it was confirmed as coronavirus within 24 hours. The patient is expected to remain under the hospital's care for 14 days, as is recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

A statement from the hospital said all medical professionals who have come into contact with the patient are being monitored for symptoms of coronavirus as a precaution.

The announcement from Cape Cod comes less than an hour after the city of Worcester announced its first case of COVID-19.
