HOLDEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A beer for one person can make for a treat for man's best friend. That's the idea behind the business model of Brew Biscuits in Holden, which uses spent grains from breweries and distilleries across Massachusetts to craft dog biscuits of all types of natural flavors.

WBZ's Jim MacKay spoke with the Owner Chris Yurkus, who said the treats are a healthy snack for canines, and something he feeds his own companion on the regular.

"I took some home I made the dog treats, my dog Wilson went absolutely bananas over them. It really got kick started with Milk Room Brewing in Rutland," Yurkus said.

From there the business only grew, with Yurkus baking the recycled grains in his kitchen and packaging them to be shipped out across the state. Soon, breweries from all over the Commonwealth signed on board with Brew Biscuits.

"I've added Double Down Brewing and Wormtown Brewery in Worcester, Wachusett Brewing which is Westminster, Rapscallion which is in Spencer, Sturbridge. The only reason this works is because the biscuits are great and the dogs love them," Yurkus said.
