BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Tuesday, the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office confirmed that the man accused of bludgeoning an elderly couple and their dog in their Marshfield home was arraigned on charges of murder in Brockton Superior Court.

Officials say days before the murders on November 29, officers did a well-being check on behalf of the victims for 28-year-old Christopher Keeley, finding that he was nowhere on premise. A family member of the victims told police that Keeley had not lived at the address for some time.

At the request Carl and Vicki Mattson, the victims in this case, police performed a well-being check again on at the same property on Gotham Hill Drive only to find the two beaten and stabbed to death. Officers say the family dog was also found dead.

Keeley was quickly identified as a person of interest in the investigation, as the state put out an advisory on his 2019 black Jeep Wrangler, which was found abandoned in a parking lot in Avon.

Then, on December 2, Keeley was brought into custody in Miami Beach, Florida for an unrelated incident. Since his arrest, Keeley's been arraigned on counts of murder, animal cruelty, larceny of a motor vehicle, and misuse of a credit card.

Keeley's next court date is set for June 29 in Plymouth Superior Court.
