BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) —   Former President Donald Trump has won a second term as president after defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in what was one of the most hotly contested elections in U.S. history.

Trump defeated Harris in a 277-224 electoral college victory.

The former president is the second-ever president to serve two non-consecutive terms in the Oval Office. Former President Grover Cleveland served as the 22nd and 24th president of the U.S. after he lost the 1888 election to former President Benjamin Harrison.

With the former president’s victory, Mr. Trump is the first convicted felon to hold the nation’s highest office. He was convicted for his role in a scheme to provide hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels shortly before the 2016 election.

WBZ NewsRadio talked to Emerson College voters on their reaction to the news of a Trump victory.

“It’s pretty dark,” one student said.

“It’s pretty upsetting but now is a good time for everybody to be as politically active as they can,” she added.

“I think the Democrats campaigned hard and aggressively the entire way through,” said another student.

The race was called decisively for Trump just hours into the ballot counting process across the country.

WBZ NewsRadio also spoke to voters on the Boston Common, whose reactions Trump’s victory were mixed.

“Oh, I’m happy he’s in,” said one voter.

“We’re dumbfounded,” said another.

This voter said that he was ready to look forward to a future of unity.

“We all just need to come together and put our differences aside the world could be a better place.”

“It’s not time to stop working, it’s time to go to work, especially as women,” another added.
