MONTVILLE, Conn. (WBZ NewsRadio) – An armed suspect is facing multiple charges after gouging at a K9 officer’s eyes while trying to escape police.
On Sunday, Connecticut State Police were sent to Preston following a report of a vehicle versus guardrail accident.
When troopers arrived, they found a 25-year-old man from Norwalk with a handgun. The man tried to walk away from the accident and towards the woods, according to Connecticut State Police.

A Montville police officer then arrived at the scene and as he exited his cruiser, the male pointed his gun at the officer. The officer then drew his gun and the suspect ran deeper into the woods.
The officer then sent his K9 into the woods where it was able to subdue the man by latching onto his leg. However, the male then proceeded to punch the K9 multiple times and gouged at its eyes. Eventually, a TASER was used to subdue the individual and he was taken into custody.

Police later found a loaded high capacity magazine, a .38 Special Revolver and a Glock 9mm inside the man’s car. Both the .38 Special Revolver and the Glock 9mm are said to be stolen from Bridgeport.
The suspect had bail set at $250,000 and is facing multiple charges including cruelty to animals, assault on public safety and criminal possession of a firearm.
