BARNSTABLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Barnstable Police Department said they responded to a passerby report of a single motor vehicle crash on Race Lane in Marstons Mills on Friday night.

Police said that upon arrival, the BPD and the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department found that a white work van had collided with a tree off the roadway.

The sole occupant and driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by COMM FD, who later extricated his body from the vehicle with specialized equipment, police said. The BPD said that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identified the victim as 19-year-old Marllon Faria of Hyannis.

The BPD Accident Reconstruction Unit processed the scene and began conducting an investigation, which in its early stages indicated that the incident was weather-related, though it remains ongoing, officials said.

"The Barnstable Police Department sends their condolences to Marllon’s family and friends. Please contact us if there is anything we can do to assist you during this difficult time," the BPD said in a statement.
