BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new survey has once again ranked Boston's accent as the most annoying in the United States. Preply, a language learning platform, surveyed 1,000 Americans on their opinions of foreign and domestic accents.

Boston tied with the Southern accent for the most annoying U.S. accent. Boston also brought home the title in 2022. On the bright side, Boston just missed out on the top 3 for "smartest-sounding" accent, perhaps a holdover from the movie Good Will Hunting. The generic "Northeast," accent which the survey say "New England, Greater New York, and Greater Philadelphia" fall under, ranked number one.

WBZ NewsRadio asked Bostonians what they thought about the ranking — predictably, most disagreed.

"The annoying one is the south. I can't understand it," said Marconi of Canton. "No matter where I go, everyone can tell exactly where I'm from," he continued.
