BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Police Department issued a reminder to sports fans on Thursday to be aware of counterfeit tickets for the upcoming NBA and NHL Playoffs.
On Saturday, the Boston Bruins are playing the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL Playoffs at TD Garden.
Then, on Sunday, the Boston Celtics will play in the NBA Playoffs also at TD Garden.
Ahead of these sporting events, the police encouraged fans to only buy tickets from authorized ticket agencies, since purchasing from a secondary source can be risky.
"You know some of [the tickets] are real, some of them aren't, you know? I mean there are legitimate people out there and there are thieves out there," said Paul, a fan.
"I've heard about all the scams about buying tickets off of certain sites so I really just try to stay to one of the well-known sites," said Steph, another fan.
BPD officers said they want to “proactively curb such activity” and urged buyers to only get tickets from official vendors.

They also encouraged community members with information about counterfeit tickets to contact the Boston Police by calling the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS or texting the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463).
Police reminded people who wish to provide information anonymously that they are “only interested in the information you provide, not who you are.”
