PROVIDENCE, R.I (WBZ NewsRadio) – Brown University has paused in-person dining in all campus eateries because of recent rise in confirmed Coronavirus cases on campus.
On Tuesday, Brown Dining Services said they will be transitioning to a “Grab and Go” program for all meal periods.
This comes as the Ivy League school confirmed 82 positive Covid-19 asymptotic tests in the past seven days. According to a statement released by the school, these cases were found primarily among undergraduate students.
“The increase in positive asymptomatic test results is a reflection of the transmissibility of the delta variant, our significant increase in the number of tests conducted at Brown, and an increase in our student population, some of whom have been engaging with other students in multiple smaller groups outside the classroom, especially indoors without masks,” the school’s statement said.

As a response, Brown has limited undergraduate social gatherings to five people. The school plans on continuing classes as there has been no evidence of the spread of the virus in classrooms.
Brown’s “short-term” restrictions also include increased undergraduate student testing from once to twice per week and an indoor mask requirement.
Starting July 1, Brown required all employees be vaccinated. Students are required to receive the vaccination as well.
